Fifty members of the Class of '66 are gone, but not forgotten.

Everyone knew Mike Price; who could forget Mike in his sarapi and sombrero riding into the football games on the back of an old pickup truck beating the gong of The Peons, the boys' booster club? Big Max Martin was known to all as the catcher behind the plate on those championship baseball teams. John Dersch had a "combo"....

that always played at the "talent" shows/class assemblies. Lane Ely organized previous reunions. And you will all have memories of friends on this list....

Dan Bidwell........that's all I really knew him as.....I will never forget he and his adopted folks lived out at Buffalo Lakes for a while.......Dan had a red MGA.........he drove back and forth from the Lake to town each day.......I had a red metalflake steering wheel (yes I said red metalflake) that I had on one of my cars and pulled it off when I sold the car.......Dan bought it from me and we installed it on the MGA........Dan was coming back to town from the lake one day and a car hit him head on.........it almost killed him...he spent a lot of weeks in the hospital....they weren't sure he would walk again......but he did..........He and I went to the wrecking yard and pulled the red metalflake steering wheel off the car.....which was about all that was left.......and he kept it for a reminder of the wreck.........He was a funny, fun loving guy....

Bill Stinson and Wedz Coke....will never forget our sophomore year and they both had '57 Chevy's....they had been friends for a long time...Bill's dad was in real estate, and Wedz's dad was a builder. They were both in the fatal crash that killed Linda Weathers on the way to the Monterey-Borger game in the construction on the Amarillo hiway.........June Carter and I were supposed to go with Linda and Wedz that night, because June and Linda were best friends....June's mom got wind of it, and needless to say we didn't go........Bill and his date went with them.........everyone ended up with a lot of injuries.......Linda didn't survive her's......Very strange that both guys are gone now........But not forgotten..........

Speaking of John Dersch... I managed his combo, the Cliquemen for about a year...LOL. We were never too successful, but the sound was great and it was a lot of fun. My "managers" commission usually covered my gas down and back from gig...needless to say, my stint as a rock band promoter was shortlived. I was sorry to hear John died at an early age...our parents were close, as were John and I. John's parents held legendary Christmas Eve parties...I remember them well.

Quoting William Michael Windsor:
Mike Price's death was the most tragic to me because he was a special friend. Mike used to come over to our house on Saturday mornings, let himself in, fox a big bowl of cereal, and squat on the floor right in front of the TV watching cartoons. Remember that green Model A he had? Sadly, Mike became an alcoholic, and an accident when he was drunk caused his death.

I grew up living 2 streets from Mike...he on 55th and me on 53rd. We go back to Bayless Elementary school and playing flag football at Parson's Elementary. I was sorry to hear he passed in the manner in which he did...he was a unique and dynamic individual.

Mike Cole? Anyone have information on him or his death? I used to know a Mike Cole...he lived behind me when I lived on 31st as a youngster. He had a brother, Phil Cole, who I think still lives in Lubbock. Phil and I were close and I am one day older than Phil. Mike was Phil's older brother, by one year. Their dad (Jack) ran Cole Plumbing in Lubbock.

Tom Brummett, John Dersch, Tommy Hart, and Mike Price were among my very best friends. Max Martin was a great guy, and Skip Poindexter was a family friend before he was a classmate. Lane Ely and Lynn Hamilton were good friends. Too many names on here are people I had classes with.
